Second I saw the lineup for BH6 I got this real feeling of déjà vu
You can push and pull at features all you want (which they hardly did) but the origin of each of the female character models is still very obvious
gogo’s hurts the most. i thought she looked asian until i saw a pic of elsa squinting. :/
i’ve seen so many people continue to defend this BS but you SHOULD be pissed. it’s problematic and frankly, i think it’s sexist.
why though? well, here’s why:
if Disney can vary all these men and MORE (and that’s just SOME examples) but won’t do that with women protagonists despite having the resources and skill to (seriously, look at ALL THOSE VARIED WOMEN in the background), then that’s a problem. Disney is a multibillion dollar company. it has its own theme parks around the world and the theme parks in the states have their own strict rules and regulations that might as well be their own COUNTRIES.
Disney’s Frozen made so much money at the box office. they make so much money a year that they DEFINITELY have the resources to render women better than this. they make more profit than investments now.
how is it that they’ll vary BACKGROUND characters, but give their same female protags the same face. same body type. same MODEL over and over? why do the main female characters all fit this “ideal” image?? why do they continue to recycle models for women when we vary in appearance just as much as men?
i am tired of seeing a thin white girl princess. i am upset that a Hispanic princess hasn’t even been made. even the princess of color are skinny (and some are so badly stereotyped and offensive). big eyes small nose cute lips, yeah, been there done that.
seriously. they even vary their damn animals better than women. i don’t care if this is traditional animation, some are CGI (such as Max and Bullseye). those are all one animal: horses. and those HORSES are more varied than some of the female protagonists that i have seen in disney movies. are women not even on the same scale as animals for them to render?
pay attention to this. you can like disney all you want, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! but DON’T defend their sexism, whitewashing, and other problematic aspects. please.
